The URTU has urged members to inform about abuses of periods of availability (PoAs) for a Data Validation Working Group set up to review the European road transport directive.
Bob Monks of the URTU says the union fears the "widespread abuse of PoAs" by employers.
The FTA believes that the "ball is in the court of the unions" to provide evidence that PoAs are being used in an illegal or harmful way.
