Suckling drivers' pay dispute resolved

13 March 2007

Suckling tanker drivers working on a Conoco contract have voted overwhelmingly to accept pay increases worth up to 20%.

The TGWU says 52 drivers voted to accept the offer while just two rejected it. In a bid to close pay differences of up to £4,000 with Conoco drivers at other operators, Suckling drivers based in Grangemouth, Scotland, will keep their 40-hour week and receive increases of between 15% and 20% over the two-year deal. The package includes a cut in hours  from 45 to 40 at depots in England and basic pay rises from £11.91 to £14.20 an hour.

"We found a solution to the dispute and I am pleased we have," says Suckling MD Peter Larner, who faced the threat of strike action from the drivers last month.
