Volvo announces a hybrid distribution truck

20 March 2007

Volvo has been unveiling new hybrid products to European politicians and press today in Brussels.

The event, chaired by West Midlands MEP Malcolm Harbour, revealed  a new bus and an FM9 6x2 rigid truck.

Both have diesel engines backed by electric motors which provide traction at speeds up to 20km/h.

Electric power and charging is via an I-SAD (integrated starter/alternator device), with claimed fuel savings of up to 35% in urban use.

Customer trials begin next year, with mainstream production expected in 2009.
