Eddie Stobart looks at contingency plans for HQ

28 March 2007

Eddie Stobart's search for a new headquarters could look outside its home county of Cumbria if plans for a new base at Carlisle Airport fall through.

The airport site remains the company's favoured option, but a spokeswoman says that other potential sites are being identified in case they are needed.

One is a 45-acre site on the Roman Way Industrial site in Fulwood, Preston, which Eddie Stobart chairman  Andrew Tinkler has considered.

But the spokeswoman dismisses local press reports that the company had already put in an offer. "We haven't made an offer, although we are aware of the site. It's very much a plan B, but it is a possible alternative. Hopefully the Carlisle airport scheme will go ahead but we just need to bear in mind what to do if that doesn't happen," she says.
