DfT consults on blind-spot mirrors

29 March 2007

The Department for Transport is inviting comments on a proposal to retro-fit mirrors to goods vehicles in order to reduce collisions.

The consultation specifically seeks views on a European Commission proposal to fit mirrors to the passenger side. According to the DfT, the proposal is intended to "improve the exterior field of vision on the passenger side of heavy goods vehicles, so as to reduce the number of incidents of vulnerable road users being struck by the side of the vehicle as  it manoeuvres, typically at junctions in the urban environment."

The consultation documents can be downloaded from the Department for Transport's website.
