Ever suffered the embarrassment of dropping a trailer following a failure of the king-pin and fifth wheel to engage properly? Well coupling manufacturer Jost wants to hear from you.
The firm is surveying operators' artic coupling experiences in order to find the extent of the problem.
Respondents are asked whether they consider dropped trailers a major problem and, if so, what they consider to be the cause - for example driver error, faulty equipment, or the lack of an automatic
confirmation system.
They are also asked how dropped-trailer accidents could best be avoided and whether financial incentives would encourage operators to specify sensors to confirm full engagement.
