Responding to comments by Norbert Dentressangle chief executive Jean-Claude Michel that the French haulier would like to buy Eddie Stobart, Andrew Tinkler, chairman at Eddie Stobart parent WA Developments, insists the company is only looking for an investment in the business, rather than a takeover.
Michel said: “We are thinking that it could be a good opportunity for us, but there are a lot of candidates and many financial institutions also looking. So we are not very optimistic about our capacity to do that”.
But Tinkler is adamant Eddie Stobart is not for sale: “We have gone out to all areas to look at the market and what we would be interested in doing and we would not be interested in selling Eddie Stobart.”
However he did not rule out the possibility of a merger, saying: “There might be something we can do to link two businesses together to make savings.”
