Scania is celebrating this year's Young European Truck Driver competition by sponsoring the drivers' forums on TruckNet UK, the biggest drivers' website in the UK. Between the beginning of April until the closing date for entries on May 11th, Scania will sponsor not only the "Professional Drivers" forum on TruckNet UK, but also the "Euro Drivers" forum, and the "New and Wannabe Drivers" forum. Drivers considering taking part in the event will be able to click through from the forums to the YETD website directly to find information on the competition, and also to enter.
Drivers of heavy trucks born in 1972 or later can take part in the competition, which has a top prize of a brand new Scania R-series truck valued at 100,000 Euros (£65,000).
Local qualifying rounds will take place during June and July 2007 at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire; they begin with a theoretical test about regulations and safety issues, then move to practical tests such as precision manoeuvring, checks before driving and economical and defensive driving.
The European final will be held at Scania's head office in Södertälje, Sweden 21-22 September 2007. TruckNet UK will be attending both the UK and European finals to report on the competition and the winners.
