Shadow transport secretary Owen Paterson says that a new, simpler Lorry Road User Charge could help industry compete with overseas operators.
"I think there could be some advantage even if it was a cost because I don't think the current position is sustainable." Paterson also backed longer but not heavier trucks and said that there should be an on-the-road trial.
