Pentalver to bring operations to single site

10 April 2007

Southampton-based container specialist Pentalver Transport, part of shipping giant Maersk, has unveiled plans to consolidate its operations onto a new 21-acre site.

The 40-truck firm presently operates from three locations within Southampton's Western Docks but says the current situation is both impractical and inefficient.

Managing director Brian Tattersall says: "Because of a massive influx of empty containers we have a number of satellite depots on licence from Associated British  Ports [ABP]. The new site will consolidate these and enable us to be more efficient, additionally a lot of the land on the satellite sites is barely fit for purpose." The firm is currently in discussions with ABP to take over the new site located near dock gate ten. Tattersall says investment on it will amount to £10m and should be completed by the end of 2007.

Pentalver's West Midlands-based sister company Bowmur Haulage is also consolidating operations onto one site at Rumer Hill, Cannock.

Bowmur took possession of the site 18 months ago and started construction work there late last year. It anticipates moving the whole fleet by August 2007.
