Coventry-based Modec has secured two significant orders in the highways maintenance sector, with both AccordMP and Amey Infrastructure Services purchasing ten of its zero-emission vans.
Integrated highways management and maintenance company AccordMP will use the battery-powered vans to service a six-year contract, worth £40m per year, with Transport for London (TfL). They will be used in South London for light to medium highway and footpath maintenance and for emergency repair response.
"They are clean, virtually silent in operation and very agile and easy to manoeuvre - all factors that will bring significant benefits to the residents and commuters in South London," says Dave Wright, deputy managing director at AccordMP. He believes they will be cost-efficient, and will match the running cost of diesel vehicles on a pence per mile basis. The company plans to charge the vans with 'green' electricity - and is in negotiations with BizzEnergy regarding the supply of it.
"The use of Modec within AccordMP's fleet has clearly impressed TfL and has helped them secure this contract," explains Geoff Reyner, sales and marketing director at Modec. "We are also pleased to announce that highways maintenance specialists Amey Infrastructure Services quickly followed suit and also ordered 10 vehicles. Modec is a superb urban vehicle that is not only hugely capable and cost-effective, but also allows maintenance companies to demonstrate in practical terms that they care about the environment."
