Given Volvo’s deserved reputation for safety, it’s rather ironic that the mirrors on its heavy trucks have been repeatedly singled out for criticism. Their view rearwards is fine, it’s just that their location and sheer bulk create a major blindspot large enough to hide a Transit at 100 feet.
Now, though, Volvo has accepted there is a problem and from the second week in June, all new FM and FH models will be supplied with a new design of mirror. Smaller and mounted further away from the cab, the new design looks set to solve the problem at a stroke.
