Shearline Steel Strip, based at Kingswinford in the West Midlands, has just commissioned its first six-wheeler. The Euro 4 Volvo FE rear-steer 26-tonner is an addition to the fleet, whose heaviest previous steel carrier is a two-axled 18-tonne MAN.
Powered by Volvo's Deutz-built 7.2-litre D7 engine, the Shearline fleet's newcomer was supplied through the nearby Hartshorne dealership while the unusual purpose-designed body, with its twin coil wells, load securing posts and slide-back canopy, was built by Transport Enterprises of Leicester.
Transport manager Barry Perry says AdBlue is being replenished as part of Hartshorne's routine service support. He adds that though the FE's sleeper cab was specified, the vehicle is rarely away for the night.
