Petition launched to save Alconbury truckstop

17 April 2007

The Professional Drivers' Association has launched a petition to keep the Night Owl Truckstop open. The truck park - at Alconbury near the A1 and A14 in Cambridgeshire - is said to be under threat of being sold.

A statement published on the TruckNet  UK Drivers' Round Table forum says:

The PDA would ask you all to sign this petition in support of keeping Night Owl Alconbury as a secure lorry park, and NOT turning it into warehousing.

This Petition will run for a month and signatures may be added online at http://www.petitionspot.com:80/petitions/nightowlpda in addition, signatures will be collected at Truckfest Peterborough on May 6th & 7th.

This is for ALL lorry drivers and not just PDA Members. Our safety and security is at stake.

It will be presented to Huntingdon District Council, and a number of other local interested parties together with a request NOT to allow any change of use of this land.

We will be seeking support for this campaign from the Highways Agency, The Cambridgeshire Police Force, Truckpol, Eurowatch, VOSA, Cambridgeshire Freight Quality Partnership, The Road Haulage Association, The Transport Association and The Freight Transport Association.

We cannot, must not and indeed will not, allow this secure lorry park to close without a fight.
