To accommodate the new engine the 200hp Transit’s are equipped with a new grille and bumper and a six-speed transmission is required, there also some changes to the suspensions necessary to accommodate the extra power and torque. The new engine benefits from Ford’s 50,000km/2-year service intervals.
One obvious application for the new power unit is the latest top-rated Transit, now available with a higer gross vehicle weight, up from 4.25t to 4.6t. As well as the additional power, both axles have been strengthened for this application to accommodate a 1,850kg front axle and a 3,300kg rear unit. To cope with the higher weights larger rear brake callipers are employed as are uprated rear springs and revised front and rear damper settings.
