Truck-mounted refrigeration unit manufacturer Thermo King has upgraded its TracKing reefer telematics system to include geofencing capability.
This allows an operator to ‘fence in’ a designated area on its GPS system and when the trailer crosses an invisible boundary the operator is alerted.
The system gives the operator added security on high value loads and also enablers them to inform customers that a delivery is imminent. Regional director Graham Eames adds: “If your customer knows that a vehicle is on its way then they can make the necessary preparations and then save your driver time in the delivery. Over the week this can make a big difference to your operation.”
Innovate Logistics is currently trialling the new system; it will initially have 100 trailers with the system fitted with another 80 due to come on stream.
The TracKing system also allows operators to remotely monitor their fridge units’ performance in real time and download historic data for the unit regardless of where the truck is. It can be retrofitted to the majority of Thermo King fridge units.
Thermo King has also announced that it is extending the warranty on components in its fridge units to 12 or 24 months, which it believes is an industry-leading figure.
However it stipulates that the parts have to have been fitted by a Thermo King technician.
It will also offer a discount of up to 30% on certain new parts provided the damaged core components are returned to the dealer.
