Andy Haines, the head of logistics at Tate & Lyle Sugars Europe, has replaced John Russell as president of the Freight Transport Association (FTA). Haines, who has been a vice-president of the FTA for the past twelve months, has spent his whole career "involved in the supply chain in some form or another, never far from trucks, trains and ships in various forms".
Haines says: "I am looking forward to carrying on the excellent work of my immediate predecessor John Russell in seeking a fair and equitable arrangement for transport operators in whatever section of the supply chain they work in. We also need to continue to encourage the UK government to come to the right policy conclusions and to make the correct investment to allow UK freight achieve its full potential."
The line-up on FTA's board of directors for 2007/2008 includes: Adrian Burleton (vice president), commercial director at Argos; Rebecca Jenkins (vice president), sales director at Wincanton and John Coghlan (treasurer), chairman at Inchcape Shipping Services (UK). Five new members have joined the board this year - Roger Burnley, Eddie Fitzsimons, Stewart Oades, Alastair Parker and Perry Watts.
