Denby Transport and Stan Robinson both took their Longer Heavier Trucks to the CV Show, with the former giving frequent demonstrations of the vehicle's turning circle.
One of several high-profile visitors to take a look at the truck was RHA chief executive Roger King, who refused a chance to have a go behind the wheel, but was happy to sit in the passenger seat.
King praised the truck's manoeuvrability, and told MT that a small trial involving a handful of responsible operators
on clearly defined routes would "be useful".
"We have members who can see the benefits for their business and for the environment," he said, "while others are more sceptical on both counts."
The RHA will be having a non-binding vote on the subject at its annual conference next month.
