DMW doubles its cosmetics work with KMI

14 May 2007

Nottinghamshire firm DMW Logistics has more than doubled its business with KMI after it won a three-year contract to take over the cosmetic manufacturer's entire UK logistics business. The Sutton-in-Ashfield company won the business mainly due to its central location which it says will reduce delivery mileage by up to 45%.

Stock for all KMI's ranges - King of Shaves, Ted Baker, Fish and HED - is controlled by its LocateIT warehouse management system. Orders are received each day, assembled  and shipped to all KMI customers in the UK. The warehouse also ships worldwide to key export markets such as the USA. DMW Logistics has had a relationship with KMI that goes back to 2002.

Steve Weatherby, DMW's business development director says the contract win will not result in more driver jobs because it already subcontracts all its work however he says it does send out positive signals to the workforce: "It's reassured staff that jobs are there. Job security has been assured." He adds: "We like to think it will be a springboard to other accounts."

Weatherby says there were at least two other companies that applied to the tender, one of which was Lambert Brothers Haulage in Southampton which currently handles some transport for KMI.
