Confidence level in industry drops in UK

UK operators have one of the lowest confidence levels in Europe. Motor Transport joined with similar publications across Europe earlier this year to survey the state of the transport operator industry. It found the average level of confidence in Europe is 6.7 out of 10 the UK level however is 6.4, with only Luxembourg lower at 6.01.

Poland and Holland have the highest levels. Some 40% of UK operators say 2007 will be average or worse than 2006.Profits were hit in the UK, with 26% saying  they had seen a reduction of profits between 2005 and 2006. One in five operators across Europe saw profits fall in 2006 but one in nine increased profits by between 29% and 40%.
