Haulage restructure reaps record turnover for Maxi

17 May 2007

Haulage and construction business Maxi Group says it is pleased with its "record turnover" and continuing upward trend of its profits following a major reorganisation of its haulage arm. For the year to September 2006 group turnover increased by almost 18% to £34.9m, from £29.6m in 2005. Pre-tax profits for the period were £1.7m up from £485,000 the year before. Turnover within its haulage operations rose by £2.2m to £23.3m and it converted a loss of £202,000 in 2005 into a £826,000 pre-tax profit,  despite a first half of the trading period producing unsatisfactory results.

Maxi Group chairman Gerry Atkinson says: "Our Irish business has produced the most growth but steady increases have been achieved in all areas. "I am running a privately owned group of companies for long term success, stability and growth with a rock-solid balance sheet and not headline results." Atkinson says that so far this year the group has ordered 51 trailers and 21 trucks and has an option for early delivery on a further seven tractor units. He adds: "We will also be looking at an autumn replacement programme later in the year."
