Tommorow's industry leaders

Thursday 25 January 2007 12:00

Who are tomorrow's leaders of the transport industry? We talk to some of the young, up and coming employees who have designs on bigger and better things.

  • Name: Scott Edwards
  • Age: 28
  • Job: Mercedes-Benz CharterWay brand marketer.
  • How long have you been in your present position?: Almost three years. The fact is I really enjoy this job. It's just in my blood.
  • What does the job entail?: As a brand marketer, I am responsible for overseeing Mercedes-Benz CharterWay's marketing programme, including incentives, schemes and campaigns promoting finance packages, production and distribution of related marketing materials, managing the division's PR activity and updating content on the finance pages at target=_new>http://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/.
  • What are the best parts/the worst parts of the job?: What I love about my job is the people I work with every day and those who I have the opportunity to meet along the way. We face a number of challenges in the transport industry, with UK legislation requiring changes in practice through to increasing costs related to the volatile oil industry.
  • How long have you been in the industry?: In addition to my time at Mercedes-Benz CharterWay, I worked for seven years with the Volkswagen Group in various aspects of marketing.
  • Where did you come from - college/another industry? What age were you then?: Prior to joining the industry, I took a year to travel across New Zealand.
  • What attracted you to the transport industry?: When I returned to the UK, I was attracted to the challenges and dynamic nature of the industry. The fact it was Mercedes-Benz also influenced my decision!
  • Have you always wanted to work in transport?: To be honest, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life except I wanted to work in an industry where I could live and breathe powerful engines!
  • How should the industry attract the best young talent?: By continuing to present itself as being dynamic and challenging, requiring talent which is motivated by problem solving and genuinely interested in making a difference to the economy.
  • Where do you see yourself in five years' time?: I would hope that I continue to expand my career within the Mercedes-Benz organisation.
