Former Cert Group CEO Jeff Stanton was forced to leave the company after a continuing disagreement with its owner over how the business was run. Stanton's employment was terminated on May 11, but he was on leave from March 29, which he says was close to when current executive chairman Keith Reynolds joined Cert.
Stanton tells MT non-executive chairman Nigel Jagger began to take a more active role in the business in October 2006, after Stanton had run Cert for more than twelve years. Things came to a head in early March after concerns were voiced over Jagger's involvement, particularly the making of business decisions without consulting the board of directors. "Obviously I supported this grievance," Stanton says. But he was called to a meeting with Jagger on March 28 and asked to go on leave.
Stanton, who plans to continue his career in logistics, says: "His [Jagger's] view of the future and mine were very different." He says he is "disappointed" about the way the situation has been dealt with, adding that he had no desire to leave the company. "It was the longest job I'd ever had in one role. We had such a fantastic team of people." Cert Group declined to respond to MT's questions about the situation.
