NYK Logistics has won a major contract to distribute drugs for pharmaceutical giant Astrazeneca, which previously handled its own transport. The two-and-a-half year contract covers the centralised planning and primary distribution of pharmaceutical products from Astrazeneca's 10 factories to its network of 30 delivery points throughout Europe.
NYK is also developing a system of shared loads with other European drug makers to cut costs and reduce pollution. Of the 22 companies that were in the bidding for the contract, NYK was the only one that did not already work for Astrazeneca.
