Two former directors of a Devon-based LGV driver agency have been banned from running an agency following a double fatal accident. Robert Knapman and Robert Legg, who had run R&B Drivers, were banned from running an employment business for ten and five years respectively.
The case was brought by the Department of Trade and Industry before an employment tribunal in Exeter. The hearing was told that following the deaths of two LGV drivers in a crash on the A303 in Wiltshire in 2003, an investigation showed that one of the drivers who worked for R&B Drivers, had breached tachograph regulations by driving excessive hours. Following a subsequent criminal prosecution Knapman was jailed for two-and-a-half years and Legg was finned £1,000.
