Hanbury Davies hopes to grow new site at Teesport

14 June 2007

Hanbury Davies hopes to operate up to 100 trucks at its new depot at PD Ports' Teesport Commerce Park once the Northern Gateway Container Terminal (NGCT) opens. The Felixstowe-based operator has opened a small distribution and logistics depot at Teesport, which managing director Ian Wilson says will grow with the advent of the NGCT - a £300m deep sea terminal.

Initially, Hanbury Davies is running a small fleet of corporate liveried vehicles from the leased site, available on a spot-hire  container transport basis. But growth is likely if the NGCT is given the green-light. "Expansion here depends on whether PD Ports' big extension to Teesport is granted," Wilson tells Motor Transport. Ultimately, 40 to 100 trucks could be run from the location, he adds.

Wilson points out that growth in container traffic into the UK is being driven by continuing retail demand. Hanbury Davies says this growth is putting "tremendous strain" on ports but the new development at Teesport will give shipping lines greater access into the UK.
