Scottish Water turned off by AdBlue

14 June 2007

Scottish Water has appointed MAN as its single heavy truck supplier, partly because it wanted to avoid SCR and any potential AdBlue pollution. Dennis Paterson explains to MT that it didn't want the urea solution at its water filtration plants, because it was viewed as "too great a risk.

"We took advice from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency," says Paterson, "and they said they didn't want to see it at our sites. We already have to take diesel onto the sites in truck tanks, and  didn't want another potential pollutant." He goes on to say that another factor was the lack of availability of AdBlue in Scotland.

Scottish Water is currently embarking on a major truck and van replacement programme, with the purchase of 500 vehicles totalling £13m. The new van fleet is made up of Citroën Berlingo, Citroën Dispatch and Ford Transit vehicles. Paterson says the Transit was chosen over the Citroën Relay because of its superior six-tonne towing capacity.
