Ryder Europe is introducing a programme of health assessment and maintenance for its entire workforce. Over 1,000 employees will be given health screening, covering eyesight, blood pressure, hearing, and tests for diabetes. The programme was developed for Ryder by occupational healthcare company Clarity. "The good health of our staff is the key to the success of the business," says Nigel Godbolt, human resources director at Ryder.
Clarity will be responsible for managing the new programme, from notifying people of appointments to providing advice and rehabilitation services. Medical examinations for drivers of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes has been extended to all employees, not just those over 45, and will be carried out every two years, not the mandatory five. "We recognise health issues can begin earlier than 45, and go undetected for several years," says Godbolt.
"The scheme not only identifies problems but also provides back-up for staff to find the correct treatment." The programme will be launched over next two months.
