Mercedes-Benz has supplied AirFayre with a new-generation Euro 4 6x2 Econic. The truck has being fitted with an Emtek Support GRP insulated body, which can be raised by up to 8.2 metres. It cost £200,000 and will be used to service the new 555-seat double-deck Airbus 380. The weight of the body, scissor lift, ancillary equipment and stabilising jacks give this 26-tonner a payload of just 4 tonnes. The truck is currently undergoing trials, and if successful, another will be built. In 2006 Mercedes-Benz sold 500 Econics in the UK, 20 of which went into non waste applications. These include fire engines, airport re-fuelling trucks and a Tesco CNG-fuelled urban delivery vehicle.
