Foulger wins consolidation deal

21 June 2007

Foulger Transport has won a contract with Norfolk County Council to run a 24-hour freight consolidation centre designed to cut LGV movements and improve air quality in Norwich. The deal will be a boost for the Norfolk haulier, which was forced to withdraw an application for an 18,000sq m warehouse near Thetford due to fierce objections from local councils.

The Snetterton centre should be running by August and will consolidate loads destined for Norwich before deliveries are made  into the city. Freight operators will be able to deliver to Foulger's warehouse at any time and Norwich-based retailers can choose to use the centre as a 'remote stockroom'.

The initiative is part of a project funded by the European Union through its Civitas scheme. Foulger director Barry Germany says: "The centre is located in a prime position on the A11 corridor and we have full transport and warehousing infrastructure in place."
