Ryder plans to be a 'player' in European logistics

21 June 2007

Ryder, more usually known for its contract hire and leasing operation in the UK, says it plans to buy its way to becomeing a major player in the European Logistics market. Its contract logistics business in Europe, effectively just the UK, represents 20% of its European turnover, but in the USA the split is roughly 50-50.  However, the firm's global strategy is to be a "global player in logistics" according to Robin White, marketing director, Europe.

White adds: "We don't have the infrastructure  of a DHL or Wincanton but we are a good niche player. We want to grow the logistics business - we are actively looking for appropriate acquisitions.

Ryder is supplying 26 DAF CF430 tractors and 102 double-deck trailers to City Link.
