New Volvo FH set for 2009 launch

28 June 2007

Volvo Trucks will take the wraps off a new version of the FH truck range in 2009 to ensure the truck remains toward the top of the European tractor market league table. Senior Volvo sources indicate the vehicle will be a further evolution of the successful product line-up, first launched in 1993, and will focus on improvements to the ride and handling of the  truck as well as attention to the fit and finish of the cab.

The Volvo Group stable of products in Europe - Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks - will be completely revised by 2012 as the company relaunches its truck line-up to meet the Euro-6 engine emissions legislation. Renault Trucks alone is understood to have earmarked E1.3bn (£875m) to pay for the new truck range.

A common engine platform will be used across the group and the cabs will also benefit from common componentry, although we understand this will be more than just panel differences - Renault and Volvo cabs will share the same floor pan and rear cab wall, but will be free to develop their own cab frames to suit the needs of their different customer bases. Expect to see the first of this new truck family from 2011 onwards.
