Fraikin is offering its customers the chance to run their own EGR versus SCR trials, having just taken delivery of 900 Euro 4 trucks from both tech-nology camps. "Since opinions are so divided on the two technologies, we thought we would give our customers the chance to try both technologies," explains Fraikin chairman John Ball. "It allows customers to do their own road tests with Euro 4 tractors without having to make a sizeable commitment of time and money. They can see for themselves whether there is a trade-off in fuel economy with EGR."
The latest deliveries are a mix of Daf, Iveco, Isuzu, MAN, Mercedes and Renault, and although the lion's share of the new additions to the fleet are 7.5 and 18 tonners, the trucks range in weight from 3.5 to 44 tonnes.
Ball explains this is the first time that Fraikin has purchased any Isuzus. "Although this order is a first for us, we have been working with Isuzu for some time and have a high level of confidence in its products. That's why we were happy to place a sizeable order," he says. "They are specifically for London urban rental vehicles and are proving very popular."
Fraikin, which has seen its rental fleet grow five-fold since 2005, does not have any Euro 5 trucks. However, it is likely to place an order for a sizeable number later this year. Ball says demand remains extremely strong for its fleet of Euro 3 tractors, especially those with analogue tachographs.
