Kent County Council (KCC) has pledged to meet the land acquisition and planning permission costs for a new lorry park in the county. Council leader Paul Carter says the council will meet all the expense of acquiring the land for a site capable of holding several thousand trucks, as well as the costs of securing planning permission for the park. The pledge comes days after the Government announced a £12.6m spend on a Quick Moveable Barrier for the M20, during the first phase of Operation Stack.
Two possible sites have been earmarked by county transport officials as options for a lorry park but neither has been publicly identified. A spokesman tells Motor Transport that the details of which budget the money would come from have not yet been worked out, and it is likely a lorry park would take at least five years to build.
