Depot employees at City Link say the integration of Target Express is causing unease among their workforce. Internal sources say some employees are being offered alternate roles after taking part in selection methods used by City Link to solve the problem of overlapping jobs as multiple depots are merged into one site.
Employees were asked to take internet-based exams in maths and English. Around 300 staff were then invited to attend a one-day assessment. If they were then not selected for jobs they currently held they were offered alternate roles.
City Link's integration director Mike Harris says the assessment centres were the fairest selection process. He confirms the pilot stage of the depot integration will merge sites in Swindon and Bristol into one for each location by the summer. He says: "We're doing our best to minimise any upset."
