Trucks in Suffolk urged to use main roads

10 July 2007

Suffolk County Council is stepping up its campaign to persuade truck drivers to stay off minor roads. Last week the councillor with special responsibility for roads and transport, Guy McGregor, visited drivers at the Risby truckstop to remind them about the Lorry Route Network, a map showing the preferred routes for heavy vehicles.

The council's campaign was partly prompted by complaints from residents in Suffolk villages including Great Barton and Pakenham, who say they have suffered  an increase in trucks because of weight restrictions on surrounding roads. The Lorry Route Network map can be downloaded from http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/
