Parcelforce Worldwide predicts the next big step in home delivery will be to allow customers to track the vehicles carrying their parcels via the internet. Dick Stead, sales and marketing director, told the Triangle home delivery conference last week that customers should be able to see exactly where vehicles are.
"They will be able in future to see the position of the vehicle - whether it's 14 miles away or three miles away."
He said this was a great advance on just tracking the parcels. Mark Oppe of CitySprint said its vehicle tracking system wasn't much used but business customers don't want their staff watching screens all day. But he added that it had improved efficiency.
