Hutchinson buys two Volvo FH16s

16 July 2007

Quarry equipment specialist Hutchinson Engineering Services has taken delivery of two Volvo FH16-660 trucks. They have 8x4 tractor units, which are used to transport a variety of quarrying and heavy construction plant. The new trucks are also plated for operation at 150 tonnes GCW. Hutchinson chose Volvo after trying other makes. It decided on the Swedish manufacturer  because it offers the most suitable range of trucks for the operations.

The company bought its first Volvo FH in 1994, but now around a third of its 20 trucks are Volvos. The new FH16s are equipped with I-Shift automated gearboxes and T-ride heavy-duty rear suspension. There are 385/65 tyres on the front-axles and 315/80s on the drive-axles. The FH16s will remain in the fleet for five to six years and all maintenance will be carried out by supply Volvo dealer Hartshorne at Alfreton on a two-year contract.

John Paine, Hutchinson's transport manager, says: "We try to keep to 'one driver, one truck', and the drivers seem well pleased with their FH16-660s."
