WVC Self Drive Hire, with six rental locations to the south and west of London, has added five Volkswagen Crafter refrigerated panel vans to its contract hire fleet. The long-wheelbase high-roof 3.5-tonners have been converted by RVL of Framfield, East Sussex. The VWs join a rental fleet which also includes Ford Transits and Mercedes Sprinters, as well as heavier trucks and artic tractors.
Hubbard 460AEL refrigeration equipment is fitted, its compressor being belt driven from the VW engine but using mains standby power at night. RVL's 75mm-thick three-layer grp/plywood sandwich insulating panels line the body interior, while the conversion also involves the Crafter's standard hinged rear and sliding side doors being panelled in white grp sheet. Despite them being covered with an insulating layer, resin sealed to the insulated floor, a metric pallet can still be accommodated between the wheelboxes.
