South Eastern and Metropolitan deputy traffic commissioner Christopher Heaps has varied operation conditions at two depots in Wyke and Guildford run by haulier A Hester. Director Tim Hunt said he was unaware of any accident at Wyke's entrance or exit, despite them being used by LGVs since 1937.
The Guildford site had been used as a depot since 1924. He was content with operating 32-tonne two-axle vehicles.
Heaps ordered that vehicles enter the Wyke site with a right turn into the western gate, and leave by the eastern gate, as proposed by the company. He ruled the Guildford site was not suitable for 32-tonne vehicles, but substituted a condition limiting the weight with one stating that vehicles must not exceed 24ft 3in in length.
