Hijackers get away with truck load of brandy

19 July 2007

Police are looking for witnesses after a truck was hijacked from a lay-by on the A34 near Didcot, Oxfordshire, in the early hours of Thursday 12 July. The Polish driver of the Norbert Dentressangle vehicle, which was carrying between £70,000 and £100,000 of Sainsbury's branded brandy, was attacked by several men in balaclavas as he slept in his cab.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Round says the driver was bundled into a van and was later found wandering in his flip-flops and pyjamas near  Stockport by another LGV driver three or four hours later. He required hospital treatment, but has since been released. The cab was also found later the same day burned out in Greater Manchester, but the trailer and load have yet to be discovered.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
