John Bywater to move into warehousing

02 August 2007

John Bywater Transport is looking to move into warehousing and storage.

Paul Howe, manager of the firm's UK Pallets operation, says the company is getting "so many enquiries", with customers keen to place anything from 200 pallets a month for storage. He adds that Bywater is looking to build facilities near its base in Dover, Kent "within the next 12 months", capable of storing up to 1,000 pallets.

"It's an aspect that I would like to look at. It's an avenue that I think the transport  industry's leading us down, and we're in a prime location to service the country," Howe says.

John Bywater Transport joined UK Pallets in April to cover the CT and TN postcodes. Howe reports that the firm is sending up a full trailer every night and volumes are "at least going up by 40 a night". He says the company would "like to expand a little bit - we would like a little bit more of TN".

n UK Pallets has recruited another four members which started in July. Lancashire-based MacGregor Europe will cover the BL postcode while Kenley Warehousing and Distribution is taking on the PR and FY areas. Express Freight Services in Burnley, Lancashire, now covers the BB postcode, while Slough-based Elite Couriers has just started  covering the W postcode and will take on another area next month.
