Bartrums Road Services moves from Diss to Suffolk

06 August 2007

Bartrums is moving its Bartrums Road Services business, based in Diss, Norfolk, to its Eye, Suffolk site.

Director Robert Bartrum says the move to the 14-acre site, to be completed by the end of August, will now bring the whole Bartrums business under one roof. The Eye depot will now also house the company's workshops and it is able to store everything undercover.

The company has sold the Diss site, which will be turned into housing. Bartrum says while the company has wanted to move  for "quite a long time", the choice of Suffolk was helped by the fact that "haulage companies don't go down so well [in Diss]. We're on a main road and completely surrounded by housing. This is a 24-hour operation".

Bartrum reports that the company has seen its "biggest growth in the past few years," but proposed fuel duty rises are a "big worry".

"We'll be able to negotiate some increases [with customers] but you'll do well to get it all covered," he says, adding that while the firm's contracts have built-in fuel duty escalators, the process is more difficult for its ad-hoc work.
