Ridgeons takes delivery of Volvo FL

16 August 2007

Cambridge-based Ridgeons Timber and Builder's Merchants has bought five Volvo FL240 12-tonners. Group logistics manager Alistair Brace says Ridgeons' previous good experience with the marque was an important factor in its choice: "Our experience shows that Volvo offers a reliable,  quality truck and good backup from dealerships across East Anglia, many of which are close to our own depots."

He adds that Ridgeons appreciates the FL's ability to manoeuvre in Cambridge's congested, narrow streets. The first example, which is equipped with a rear-mounted Hiab crane, was supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia.

It is the first truck in Ridgeons' 130-strong fleet to be equipped with Volvo's Dynafleet 'Perform and Locate' telematics system - the company specified Dynafleet for its ability to produce environmental reports as well as for its GPS tracking function with street-level mapping. Fleet manager Ewan Hunter says this technology contributes to Ridgeons' assessment of its carbon footprint.
