North Eastern traffic commissioner (TC) Tom Macartney has suspended the licence of Middlesbrough-based Terence Corden until a site used as an operating centre without authority has been authorised. The TC was also considering the repute of alleged transport manager Neil Green.
Corden said Green had always been his transport manager. Green was always there for advice, but Corden accepted that he did not come in on a regular basis. Macartney commented that if Corden had a transport manager who had visited regularly he might not have had these problems, adding that he might as well have had a transport manager in Bangladesh.
Green said he met Corden when he was buying and selling commercial vehicles. At the time he was acting as transport manager for two operators and he agreed to be Corden's transport manager.
He argued it should have been evident that the working relationship had ceased. He had written to Corden, who said he never received the letter. When they spoke recently Corden had asked him to continue as transport manager until the day of the hearing, but Green denied that he had been happy for his name to remain on the licence until he got the call-up letter. After Macartney commented that he had been a lousy transport manager, Green said he had not been involved since February 2005.
