RoadChef defends 25% rise in overnight stay cost

16 August 2007

RoadChef, which operates one of the largest motorway services on the M25, has defended its decision to ramp up the price of overnight parking by 25%.

Overnighting at Clacket Lane Services between Junctions 5 and 6 now costs £25 (up from £20) - and drivers are not impressed.

One regular user says: "I think it's absolutely outrageous. It will tip people over the edge. One of the showers doesn't work properly and the park stinks. I didn't even know  about the rise until I got there the other night - how the hell can they justify charging that?"

A RoadChef spokesman says the cost of overnight parking has not been reviewed for some time and drivers get money back because the price includes a meal voucher. "It's important to realise you get £10 back on goods," he says.
