German operator Willi Betz has recorded record sales growth, even though its MD is behind bars.
During the first half of 2007 the company's sales were up 14% on the previous year to €400m (£271m). While some of this growth was achieved by the company's transport operation, the biggest increase came from its vehicle trade in Bulgaria, Macedonia and Azerbaijan, where its first-half results were up 60% on the previous year.
MD Thomas Betz has been held on remand for the past 22 months following allegations of bribery and tax evasion of €50m (£34m) he and three other senior managers are on trial in Stuttgart, Germany.
