The TGWU section of trade union Unite confirms that Total's oil tanker drivers are being balloted for industrial action over the company's plans to break up its national distribution network.
A Unite spokesman says the national ballot of 270 drivers, over Total's decision to end its one national contract with Wincanton, is expected to take place at the end of this month.
The union wants assurances from the company on jobs, pensions and keeping its negotiating machinery.
