Bibby boss says firm is in "good shape"

29 August 2007

Iain Speak, who was recently installed as chief executive at Bibby Distribution, has praised his former boss Theo de Pencier who left to head up the Freight Transport Association earlier this year.

Speak says that de Pencier left the company in "good shape" and stresses that early indications suggest it is on course for a record year. He adds: "I don't want to sound arrogant, but I felt that I was well-positioned to succeed [Theo].

"It's a great opportunity for me - I can't think  of a better company to work for. I can really shape Bibby Distribution. "It is part of a group that's got this unique combination of family values and ethics and entrepreneurial spirit. Although [the group] is 200-years-old, we only ever look forward."

Speak says the company's membership of Logistics World Alliance - a pan-European joint venture launched in March 2006 - will became increasingly important to Bibby in the future. He adds: "At the moment, for us it's still quite small, but what it has done is change the perception of us that some of our existing customers have in terms of our reach."
