Palletforce has questioned whether there is room in the market for newest competitor Alliance Freight Network (AFN). Trevor Mudd, marketing and business development manager for Palletforce, claims the market is already "very competitive" and that it is getting "harder and harder" to be successful.
He says: "We had the situation with Global Pallet Systems, who found it difficult to get up and running in a short space of time. "It's very hard now to find players of the quality you need and to find people with the network ethos. It will be very interesting to see how the new alliance develops - it's very difficult for a new player to come in now."
Palletforce has opened a fourth transit shed at its Lichfield hub, having previously outsourced the space to a private company for storage. Mudd says: "It's been open for about three weeks now and things have been running really well. "We've experienced growth recently at 20% to 25% and we felt we needed to have the fourth shed in operation to cope with that and give us greater capacity. It will enable us to handle 10,500 pallets a night, up from the 7,500 we were previously achieving."
